On a cool summer morning, I chose my outfit for the day. Cream colored jeans, white pullover shirt, and a lime green button up shirt to complete my look. Heart necklace around neck, step counter fastened on my wrist, socks and shoes on. I was ready to participate in a virtual writers conference and then, attend a neighborhood ladies luncheon.
All was going well. There was a bit of time before the events began, so I decided to complete some chores. Wash a few dishes, put away some clean laundry, and answer emails.
Yes, this day was going great. I was ready to face the world virtually and physically.
Until…a few hours into the morning, I noticed a strange lump on my left wrist area. What in the world?
You may have guessed this, as many people have experienced similar situations.
As I reached into my sleeve, I pulled out a ball of material. Yikes! A pair of underpants! How could this have happened?
I had been wearing this outfit all morning and never felt anything unusual.
Then… I paused and remembered.
The past few days had been stressful. A good kind of stress. Lots of writing and speaking opportunities. Decisions had to be made about each opportunity. My mind had become focused on the worry of the moment. Should I write this article? Should I work on my novel? Perhaps I should stop writing for a week. Maybe I need to make a list of things to do before attempting any of those things.
Pausing, breathing slower and slower, I looked at the strange sight that came out of my sleeve. I laughed out loud. A good hearty laugh. The kind of laugh that makes your belly shake.
Then…I thanked the Lord.
With all my worrying about tomorrow and my to-do lists, I had forgotten to go to Him for comfort.
The Lord has a wonderful sense of humor and often sends me the silliest messages. Sometimes those messages are found through a surprise in my sleeve.
I’m thankful that I didn’t find the “surprise” while I was at the ladies luncheon.
That discovery could have made for interesting conversation.
Thank You Lord, for constantly reminding me of Your love and glory. Thank You Lord for giving me the giggles.
Have you found any surprises in your sleeves lately? Or surprises in other places?
Blessings, giggles, joy, and prayers,
Mimi aka Melissa Henderson

Love this!!! Paxton just found a sock in his sleeve the other day and his giggles about that sock brightened my day! He decided to put it back in his sleeve and go on with his morning 😂
Thank you for reading and commenting. I can imagine Paxton finding the sock and filling the room with giggles. He’s so sweet! Have a blessed week! 🙂
Melissa, you always make me smile! You made me think of a time when I was running a bit late one morning and had a big meeting to run when I got to work. Everything was fine until I walked into the meeting room, looked down and had two different shoes on! Instead of trying to hide them, I came up with some funny line and breathed a little easier instead of stressing. Great story about the sleeve!
You are so sweet Karen! Thank you for reading and commenting. Two different shoes? Oh, my! Alan has done that one. I love how God gives us things to laugh about. Have a blessed week! 🙂
Melissa, you have a knack for finding joy in the little things of life!

Thank you Jill. I have found socks in my sleeves and pants legs, but, not underwear in my shirt sleeve. 🙂 Have a blessed week!
Oh I loved this post..I have found wash clothes in sheets before. I was just thinking what if your meeting wasn’t virtual? God was with you for sure!
Thank you Vickie. Sheets are another place that odd pieces of clothing like to end up. haha! Have a blessed week! 🙂
Love this story. A friend often said, “If you can laugh about it later, laugh about it now.”
Thank you Diana. I have lots to laugh about. Have a blessed week! 🙂
God does have a way of keeping us down to earth. Great story! God bless!
Thank you Nancy. I appreciate you reading and commenting. Have a blessed week! 🙂
Fun and cute story, Melissa. Once, when my husband was preaching, he kept fooling with one of the cuffs of his shirt sleeves. After the service I went up front to find out what was going on, a dryer fabric sheet was inside his sleeve and he kept pushing it back up during the sermon. 🙂
Hahaha! Thank you Karen. Yes, those dryer sheets turn up in the oddest places. Have a blessed week! 🙂
This story is hilarious! I’m giggling with you, Mimi. I’ve had worse than that happen to me, however, involving a trail of TP. That’s all I’ll say. 🙂 Blessings on your week, dear friend. xoxo
Thank you Karen. Now you are making me laugh. Have a blessed week! 🙂
The joy we find in those surprise moments! I’ve walked around with my gym pants on backwards and have found socks in my pant legs hours after having put them on! Yes, the Lord has His way of grounding us back into the moment.
Amen. There is joy in the surprise moments. Gym pants on backwards is definitely funny. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed week! 🙂
Thank you for a chuckle this morning. I love all the ways God sends us messages, including humor. Thanks for sharing
Yvonne, thank you. I am thankful God sends us messages through humor. Have a blessed week! 🙂
Thank you for the laugh. I have a fear of walking around all day with a dryer sheet stuck to some part of my clothing!
Thank you. Those pesky dryer sheets are often found in odd places. haha! Have a blessed week! 🙂
Thanks for the chuckle, Melissa! I’m glad you found it before you left. I remember putting on earrings and being interrupted by a phone call. I had to race out the door to pick up my children from school. I chatted with their teachers and the principal. When I got home and looked in the mirror, one ear had a small earring and the other a large dangly one. I’d been trying to decide when the phone rang and never changed them to match!
That earring story is so funny! Wonder what the teachers and principal thought or if they noticed. haha! Have a wonderful and blessed week! 🙂
