Grumpy the Gator

In Grumpy the Gator, a group of children playing encounter a grumpy alligator. The story teaches children to always keep a safe distance from animals in the wild, and to find an adult if they see an alligator.

Its Always A Story With The Hendersons

A Mysterious Sound

Alan walked into the bedroom laughing. “Guess what just happened?” I had no idea. It was a typical evening: I was preparing for bedtime while he was watching television in the living room. A normal evening at the Henderson house. But something made him laugh—Alan had heard a mysterious sound.

As Alan closed up the house for the night, I went through my usual evening routine. I washed my face, put on pajamas, turned the television station to a lighthearted movie, and turned down the bed covers. The same nightly routine that we’ve done for years.

My dear husband chuckled as he explained what happened to him. He had turned off the TV, closed the window blinds, double checked the back and front door locks, and started to head to the bedroom.

“I kept hearing a low ticking sound. I checked the refrigerator to make sure the ice maker was turned off. I checked the washing machine for leaks on the floor. I looked outside, and nothing was different. Yet, that ticking sound kept going.”

After walking through the house, checking outside, and becoming frustrated, Alan said that he walked by the large wall clock in the dining room. There was a problem. The clock hands were stuck in one spot. This happens when the battery is low. The slight tick, tick, tick was caused by the hands not being able to move any further. Time was standing still, according to the wall clock.

As he told me what had occurred, I laughed and mentioned our family motto. “It’s Always A Story with the Hendersons”. I’m not the only one who encounters silly things. My husband has funny experiences, too.

He decided to change the batteries another day. Actually, we’ll wait for our son Mike to change them. Mike is better at taking the clock off the wall.

Meanwhile, we couldn’t hear the mysterious sound from the bedroom. All was good for the night.

Perhaps this has happened to us before. Yes, I’ve shared a similar story from the past. That’s okay. The situation brought us laughter again.

Have you ever heard a strange sound in your house? Were you afraid? Did you find the source and resolve the issue?

Life is filled with laughter and love. I hope you have a wonderful, blessed day.

Blessings,

Mimi aka Melissa Henderson

It can be maddening when there’s a weird sound we can’t place–but a relief when we find out what it was. I’m glad this incident wasn’t anything urgent and provided some laughter.

This is so cute! I’m a little bit hard of hearing, so I don’t hear him *every* single night, but one of our cats stands at the door and meows, but I swear it sounds like he’s screaming at the top of his lungs, “Mom!” It always cracks us up.

Thank you for you cheery post here, Melissa! We used to have a “bird clock” that would chime a different birdcall every hour. Our family got used to it, but whenever we had overnight guests they were always surprised! Blessings to you dear friend!

Love this story. Yes, we’ve had quite a few of these mysterious sounds happen to us. Various things, nothing critical but it’s fun to hear your stories. They always bring a smile to my face.

Poor Alan! My husband will go still when trying to figure out a sound. When he worked night shift, I grew accustomed to every sound in the house. When I see “that” look on his face, I just go ahead and tell him what he is hearing. LOL. Great story, Melissa!

I love the way you tell the story of every day events and turn them into adventures and mysteries. We had a similar situation when one of our smoke detector batteries needed replacing. We kept hearing a beep beep and Joe didn’t want to get up to change the battery right then. We finally closed our bedroom door against the sound. That helped a little.

Haha! That sounds like us. Just close the door and change the battery later. I don’t like the pitch of that smoke alarm battery sound when it needs changing. Always a story with the Henderson family and the Foster family. Have a blessed day dear friend. 🙂

I can picture the scene because we’ve had similar ones in our home. Once the source is found, it does bring smiles and laughter. I’m glad God gave us the ability to laugh. Thanks Melissa

Funny things do happen in the house! When our smoke alarms need new batteries, there is such a loud sound, we rush to change the batteries immediately. Glad you were okay and got a few extra laughs! God bless you!

I had the same kind of thing happen before. We had a screeching sound that echoed throughout the house, making it impossible to find the source. We even called the fire department who came out and searched the attic, the wiring, etc. all through the house. Nothing. After they left, I happened to walk by a coffee table and saw something in the bottom of a crystal vase. I reached in and pulled out my mother’s hearing aids! I baked a cake the next day and took it to the firemen and told them the source of the squealing. Such an experience!

Karen, oh my goodness! What an experience!!! I’m glad you found the source. Alan’s hearing aids make strange noises sometimes. You were so nice to make a cake for the firemen. Have a blessed week dear friend. 🙂

Yes, sometimes I hear mysterious sounds and strive to find the source. Sometimes I do and other times, I can’t figure it out. Glad Alan didn’t need to search too long.
