Grumpy the Gator

In Grumpy the Gator, a group of children playing encounter a grumpy alligator. The story teaches children to always keep a safe distance from animals in the wild, and to find an adult if they see an alligator.

Grumpy the Gator

Its Always A Story With The Hendersons

Something in my hair… What?!!!

A restful sleep was my plan for last evening. Daily activities completed. Dishes put away. Laundry folded and placed in drawers. Television turned off. Lights off. Doors locked. Time Β to relax on the comfy bed and snuggle under the covers. Ahh… perfect.

Finding the right position and arranging the covers while trying not to wake Alan was my intention. After a few moments of adjusting and rearranging the blanket, all was well and my body was ready to calm and drift off into slumber land.

Until…something moved in my hair. Wait…it’s just my hair settling down for the night, too. I don’t have a lot of hair so there should not be any “settle down” time for that.

Again all was quiet and still. Until….

What moved on my head? I know I was not imagining things. There was definite movement on top of my head.

Jumping up, tossing the covers back across the bed and reaching for the light switch, I expected to find some bug or critter crawling in the sheets.

Nothing. Nothing at all.

Deciding to get back in the bed and start my whole “settle down” process again, I turned off the light and once again began arranging the covers.

What!! Again. There was definitely something in my hair. YIKES!!!!

This up and down, in and out of bed process happened three times before I gave up and decided the whole thing was my imagination.

One last time of pulling the covers over me. Maybe I could ignore the strange feeling of the little hairs on my head moving around.

A deep breath and I began to calm. At that moment, the heating system turned off and the movement in my hair stopped.

You guessed it!!! A vent is Β on the ceiling above the bed and each time the heat came on, the air blew ever so gently on my head and made my hair dance.

I am very thankful there were no bugs or critters in the sheets.

Then, I remembered the most important thing I had forgotten to take care of before going to sleep. My prayers. I had neglected to thank God for His blessings and His love. This sure was a unique way to grab my attention. God can use anything to help us listen and remember.

And, yes, Alan slept through all the excitement. πŸ™‚

Have you ever had an odd experience and wondered how it happened? Have you ever considered how God uses things like air vents blowing on hair to get our attention? God is amazing.

Have a blessed day,
Mimi

Oh my word, Melissa! You had me thinking it was a dreaded palmetto bug crawling in your hair. I had one crawl in bed with me once while vacationing in Hilton Head. They’re huge! Loved this post!

Thank goodness it wasn’t a mouse or something! Looks like the “winds” of the vent were a good reminder for you to pray. God does get our attention in so many interesting ways!

That’s definitely one way to get your attention! So glad it wasn’t anything nasty, finding a bug would get my anxiety right up and there’s no way I’d sleep then. I hope you get a restful, peaceful night tonight – make sure to say your prayers otherwise who knows what you’ll find in your hair to get your attention this time! xx

    Melissa,

I love this!! I literally LOL’ed!! This is such a funny and great story. Yes, God surely knows how to get our attention. He’s very creative and resourceful too, huh?!

For me, this was a reminder to look for and expect God to speak to us, to nudge us, to interact with us. He is not some “up in the sky,” “out there somewhere” kind of god. He is the ever-present, right here with us God of god!!

    Thanks for the reminder!

I don’t think God likes to be forgotten. I pray every morning when I get up. Every now and then my schedule is different and I forget to pray. Something always happens to upset me, and then I realize, I forgot to pray! God will remind us to pray. In your case, nothing bad happened, but He sure wasn’t going to let you sleep until you remembered to pray with Him. Love this story!

What a cute story! Sounds like something I would do! One time I woke my husband up because I thought there was a stray cat on me, because it didn’t look like our cat. We had the windows opened, so in my half-sleep state, I somehow thought it was a stray. In one heroic fell swoop, my husband turned on the light and lunged toward the cat, only to discover our own gray striped tiger cat looking wonderingly at our antics. Oh my! The joy is, God is with us through every one of these moments. May we turn to Him through it all!

Haha… You actually made me pretty anxious just reading.

One night I slept on the floor at a place in Mexico during a missions trip. As I laid down, I could see out the door to the outside through an at least 3 inch gap between the floor and the door. As I started to drift off I felt something crawling on my arm.

Except it was REAL – it was a cockroach!! I screamed & threw it and scared the heck out of the high school group (I was the leader) that I shared the room with.

Going back to sleep on that floor was not so easy.

Not sure that I learned anything from that … maybe I inspired a lot of kids to pray cockroaches wouldn’t crawl on them???
