Imagine our surprise when heavy snowflakes began falling yesterday in coastal South Carolina. We know all about snow from living in Virginia. Mountain snow, city snow…but….coastal snow? What????
Luckily, Alan and I kept some of our winter clothing when we moved from VA to SC in September 2017. You know…just in case. There would never be 5 inches of snow in Mount Pleasant SC! Or would there? We were proven wrong yesterday.
Just like in VA, grocery stores were packed the day before the storm. Schools announced closings, road closures and emergency details kept us alert and up to date on the situation of this record breaking storm.
Staying inside and reading good books was a great way for us to relax and be safe during the storm. A few folks were outside enjoying a walk during the storm. That was last night.
Today, the snow sits and waits to melt. Freezing cold temperatures remain and the heater runs non-stop. People wearing heavy coats and snowsuits are outside walking their sweater covered dogs. Kids are trying to find a hill somewhere to use their sleds. (They must be from out of town if they have sleds here.)
And then…a funny sight!! A family rides by the front of our home, in their golf cart. Four people bundled up and laughing. Behind them is a rope and another jolly person on a sled. We live on a short street, one way in and one way out. This family has found a new use for their golf cart. Sledding!!!! More golf carts and families ride by later in the afternoon. Looks like everyone is enjoying the snow.
This is a rare sight!! Golf carts and sleds!! We love to hear the laughter of the families and we know they are making special memories together. Everyone appears to be having an exciting time!(while staying safe, of course)

Sounds like everyone was enjoying the snow. Sounds fun. š In Wisconsin, we’re used to lots of snow, but this year, we don’t have much snow so far–only two inches. My daughter is praying for more so she can build forts and snowmen. LOL It’s freezing here though. We’ve been down to -25 windchill, but Sunday, it is going to warm up to 30! It’ll be a heat wave! I hope it warms up at your house soon! I enjoyed your post. One doesn’t see golf carts and sleds together often. š Stay warm!

I’ve never heard of sledding with a golf cart. We live close to a hill that people like to sled down. Even though we have a little snow on the ground, we did not receive more. We’ve just had weather in the single digits until a couple of days ago. Now we’re mostly in the 20’s. Still too cold to go out, so reading a good book, and curled up with a blanket is wonderful. That was a wild storm. Sounds like an experience that everyone will talk about. The golf cart idea sounds like it was a lot of fun. We already had snow in Michigan but then came the extreme cold. A couple of more nights and we should be warmer. I’ve been in my big wool blanket in bed with a book.
I am ready for warm weather. Virginia had snow and we were prepared for cold weather. This area rarely gets cold temperatures and snow. Roads are still icy today in some spots. Hubby and I are staying home again. š
Crazy storm! A golf cart pulling a sled is crazy too! HaHa! Wish I had seen that! We never get snow, except rarely a few flakes, but we do get temps below freezing for a few days each year. My husband brings potted plants into the garage, so they aren’t killed by the freeze. One more night below freezing, then it is supposed to warm up. Back into the 70s next week. Love it!
I am truly ready for warmer weather. Then, in the summer, I will be wanting cooler temperatures. haha!
It won’t last long, Mimi. In a couple weeks you’ll probably be running the air conditioning. Haha. We usually get a warm spell in January. Hang in there. Hugs! ā¤

Too cold for me. But, I realize I will be complaining when the summer heat becomes too much for me. haha!
This winter has been unusual, even in Houston. For the first time in at least ten years, we had several days last week of temperatures in the low 20s and sleet and snow flurries (no accumulation) one night. That was our second snow this winter, and the first time there were parts of town where there was accumulation. Our last snow before this year was seven or eight years ago.
The weather certainly has been strange all over the US. I am ready for Spring and warmer weather. š
